Rock 'n' Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon - Was there a Storm?

The race was scheduled for Sunday the 4th. However, tropical storm Hermine was on it's way to Virginia beach, and the Friday night weather update by organizers read.  -

"As you may know, due to the impact of Tropical Storm Hermine, the Governor of Virginia, Terry McAuliffe has declared a state of emergency. All are advised to limit travel on Saturday as the extreme weather arrives, and evacuate if recommended by officials."

However, somewhere at the bottom it also mentioned -

At this time, Rock ‘n’ Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon and 5K will continue as scheduled on Sunday.

Many runners canceled their plans and on Saturday morning weather was not giving great signs for a travel. But we still went ahead with our plan, but with a small clause that - if it gets bad we will return or just stop wherever we reach.

weather at the expo
We started around noon, so we could pick our race gear from the expo. Some bad weather, and heavy rain in some pockets, but we reached without any incidents or delay. We could see lots of leaves and twigs fallen in the parking area but no big branches or trees. The expo was mostly empty for race of this size. We collected our gear, however there was still a good chance that race might be cancelled based on weather.

In the night around 10:30 we got an update that "We confirm that Rock ‘n’ Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon and 5K is scheduled to start as planned."

The weather was still not great, but it was kind of great weather for running. It was drizzling the whole time we waited for race to start. For this race our target was to get Neha's first under 3 hour half marathon, and with this weather it was definitely a possibility.
After first couple of miles the rain stopped and then it was just perfect weather. The crowd and supporters were out too now. As we added the miles, the blue sky slowly started showing up.  We finished just after 2:57, exactly what we were hoping for this race.
I am glad we took the risk, and were aptly rewarded with a  great race, good weather and a story to tell.

The blue sky when we finished the race.
